Students from the Upper School of Province Academy came to Holy Family Residence to spend a day of their spring break with our Residents accompanied by Sister Amelia and Sarah, a parent of one of the students. The group arrived in time before Mass to meet with Mother Theresa and the Little Sisters and hear a bit about the mission of the Little Sisters and the life of St. Jeanne Jugan from Sr. Joseph Marie.
The students participated at Mass as lectors as well as joining in the singing. Following Mass, the students had a tour of the Home while our Residents gathered in the foyer. Then after the tour students and Residents had a pleasant time of playing board/table games and chatting which was enjoyed by all. Sweet treats added to the delight of the interactions between the generations.
After assisting in serving the noon meal to the Residents, the students joined them at the tables for a tasty meal and to engage in conversation. The young men and women continued their day of service in joining the Little Sisters in preparing the palm branches for Palm Sunday. They carefully observed how to construct a cross from the fronds, and then proceeded to meticulously create the palm crosses that would be used in our Home. They also listened to some vocation stories. The day ended with the group joining our Residents and Sisters in the chapel to recite the rosary.
We thank the students and their teacher for taking time from their spring to break join us for a day of service. We appreciate their enthusiasm, cooperation, energy and the joy they spread by their presence that day.
