With Independence Day as our backdrop, Holy Family Residence spent July in “Celebration of America.” Veterans from the Roseville VFW Post joined us on the 4th of July for a flag raising ceremony. With baseball as our national pastime and the Twins our favorite team, we all gathered to watch a ballgame on the big screen. The “tailgate party” came complete with hot dogs, popcorn, an ice cold beverage (or two) and a Twins’ victory!
Throughout the month, Residents shared their thoughts on the theme: “Why I Love America!”
“I love America for its freedom. I am also aware that freedom has its responsibilities, along with its rewards. Learning about our Founding Fathers has helped me to appreciate what we were given. It is imperative that we should do everything we can to preserve our freedom.” ~ Audrey Paulet
“It’s my homeland and I’m grateful for it. I am grateful for the freedoms we have, the variety of culture that is here. This is a beautiful country with its mountains and landmarks. What other country has what we have been blessed with? I also like the variety of people that we have, with their various perspectives and how they express their points.” ~ Don Conway
We spent time learning about our national symbols, highlighted by a special visitor from the National Eagle Center in Wabasha, MN. Residents, Sisters and staff gathered for a real “Nose to Beak experience” with a bald eagle. Was’aka (from the Dakota word for Strength) and Eileen spent the afternoon ‘wowing the crowd’ with their presence.
