Luke 2:10 “And the angel said to them, ‘Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.’
That great joy was much in evidence at the staff Christmas party here at Holy Family Residence, and that the joy was, as the evangelist says, “for all the people”, was equally unmistakable. Our diverse family celebrated the birth of Jesus with songs, stories, magnificent food and gales of laughter. The energy level in the room was fed by the marvelous offerings from a skilled and devoted kitchen crew, and then was bolstered through the entertainment provided by those in attendance.
Our lovely beauticians never fail to wow the crowd. This year’s offering from that talented trio was a sparkling rendition of “We Three Queens” that had everyone laughing in delight.
Maintenance continued tickling our ribs with a collection of jokes they’d carefully vetted to ensure maximum hilarity. The Housekeeping crew sang a rousing chorus of “Deck the Halls”, and considering that most of them had never sung that old carol before, they both amazed and amused all of those present.
The Administration team’s offering was a parody of an old classic. Their presentation of “God Rest We Weary Working Moms” struck a note familiar to more than a few of those in attendance. Finally, Nursing, led by the third floor crew, engaged the entire audience in a version of “The 12 days of Christmas” that brought the joy and laughter in the room to a crescendo!
The day wouldn’t have been complete without some wisdom from Mother Maria Francis. She closed the activities with a prayerful reflection on the meaning of Christmas and a reminder that many in our communities have a very difficult time celebrating this beautiful season. She finished by encouraging all of us to share the joy that was so palpable in the auditorium with our Residents, our friends and families and with all those we encounter.
