At 10 a.m. we gathered in the front of our Home, Holy Family Residence, for the raising of the American flag. The opening prayer was given by Rev. LaFontaine, and we were joined by the Veterans of Foreign War (VFW) for the festivities. There were 17 men and 2 women along with a bugler, and the flags displayed were the American Flag, the State Flag of Minnesota and the Flag representing our men and women Missing in Action. After the raising of the Flag, all joined together for the Pledge of Allegiance. Seven rifle men were in attendance, and they gave the “Riffle Volley” which was 3 rounds of ammunition fired on command. Taps was played by the bugler after the Riffle Volley and then we all sang “God Bless America”. As we moved toward the entrance to the Home, the bugler played “How Great Thou Art” and all left the area to return inside the Home.
We thank you, Almighty God, for the great gift of our beloved country. We are indeed “one nation under God” and “in God we trust.” Dear God, we ask that you bless America and keep her safe from all harm and enemy invasion. We ask also Lord, that we may always look to you in thanksgiving for this great gift of America and that we will strive to serve her well.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMERICA!
