They weren’t “loaves and fishes,” however, the weekend brought many good things to Holy Family Residence for the Residents whether they were for the main meal or an after meal dessert. Saturday morning a donation of muffins, coffee cakes and bread arrived, and that same afternoon a gentleman came with a cooler full of meats – ground beef and hams. If that wasn’t enough to savor your pallet, wait until Sunday!
Early in the morning on Sunday, March 9th a delivery of two homemade lemon meringue pies arrived “for the Sisters.” Because the Sisters know how very much the Residents like lemon meringue pies, we sent them to the units for dinner. Shortly after the arrival of the pies, three large pans of fresh donuts were delivered. Because the donuts were so fresh and because there were so many, we divided them throughout the Home for the Residents and staff; they just had to be eaten while still fresh.
We weren’t finished!!! Sunday afternoon brought a volunteer from the Cathedral Church with the left over homemade lemon meringue pies; there were 40 of them. As the woman was packing up the pies at the Cathedral, a gentleman asked where she was going with them. She said, “the pies were left over from our sale, and I am taking them to the Little Sisters.” The gentleman pulled out his checkbook and wrote her a check for the total amount due for the 40 pies. It was a “win-win” situation; the pies were paid for and the Little Sisters were the recipients of the tasty homemade lemon meringue pies. YUM!
LOAVES AND FISHES…
