Uniquely Special Mother’s Day (and Birthday) Celebration
In honor of all of the Mothers, we found a way to make Mother’s Day uniquely special this year, since we couldn’t host our beloved Mother’s Day Tea, due to the current pandemic. Celebrations for Mother’s Day started the week before with staff wearing pink in honor of Moms. A staff member planned and donated a wonderful strawberry shortcake dessert which was delivered by staff to be enjoyed by Residents and staff alike.
On Saturday, an Art Car Parade came through our parking lot sending their love and caring thoughts to our Residents while displaying signs, waving and honking their horns. The excited Residents were waving back from their rooms.
The weekend only got brighter when we had a Resident who celebrated her 102nd birthday! With family gathered outside a “Window Birthday Party” was a wonderful treat for the Resident whose family all sang “Happy Birthday” and served cupcakes to celebrate.
On Mother’s Day many families scheduled window visits in spite of the chilly weather. Many who couldn’t attend used forms of electronic communication to spend time with their loved ones on Mother’s Day. Mother Theresa Louisa ensured that the day was extra special for each of the ladies who received a gift to honor them on Mother’s Day. Although we couldn’t host our usual event, we wanted to ensure the Residents still enjoyed their day; we consider it a success.
