“And they’re off!” In May Residents, Sisters, staff and volunteers embarked on our annual celebration of the Triple Crown Horse Races. On the appointed Saturdays we gathered in the auditorium to celebrate in style, the ladies wore stylish hats for the Kentucky Derby while sipping traditional Mint Juleps and singing My Old Kentucky Home. We marveled at the winning charge made by “I’ll Have Another” and looked forward to Baltimore’s Preakness Stakes. We enjoyed a refreshing Black-eyed Susan (official drink of the Preakness) and hoped that “I’ll Have Another” would excite us again! Loud cheering filled the room as he made another come from behind charge to win!
But a Triple Crown Winner was not to be when he was scratched from the final race at the Belmont Park in New York. We didn’t let that stop our fun, as we were all waiting to learn the winners of our in-house contest,
“If you were a horse, what would your name be?”
Residents, Sisters and staff submitted 136 entrees. A panel of judges chose 3 winners: Resident “Dube” Davis won with “I’m Thinking!” Staff member Vanessa Vasquez submitted “One for the Money” and Sr. Dorothy took home the prize for “Move It or Lose It.”
Off to the Races!
