For most Minnesotans the State Fair lasts 12 days – not for us here at Holy Family Residence! We love the fair so much we just can’t seem to say goodbye.
Residents, Sisters and Volunteers make the annual trip out to the fairgrounds; taking in all the sights, sounds and delicious smells. Some of our Residents even enter their handmade crafts in the official competitions and walk away with a few 1st and 2nd place ribbons.
When the fair ends on Labor Day, our fun is just beginning. Thanks to numerous State Fair vendors, we are blessed with the “left-overs”. Our dietary staff will turn those generous donations into a wonderful State Fair Dinner. The staff has a friendly bake-off competition with the Residents doing the judging of the homemade treats, Staff vote for our version of the Diary Princess and Prince. On Thursday the whole House comes together in the main dining room, which has been decorated in State Fair theme to enjoy ‘dinner on a stick’. This year we were happy to welcome a special guest from the official fair – State Fair General Manager Jerry Hammer.
