We had the privilege of hosting the Relics of St. Gianna. The vestment worn at Mass by Fr. Abbott contained portions of St. Gianna’s wedding dress. “Every priest who wears this vestment,” said Robert White, President of the St. Gianna Society, “automatically becomes a child of St. Gianna.” The vestment has been worn by several bishops and cardinals and the Society is looking forward to the day the Pope will don the vestment. In addition to the vestment, there were 2 pair of gloves worn by St. Gianna. Normally, relics are encased in glass so that no one can touch them, however, St. Gianna’s husband did not want them encased; he wanted people to have the opportunity to touch them. Before the final blessing at Mass, Robert White explained the relics and a particular miracle of a 4 year old little girl who had cancer, when she touched the glove she threw it to the ground explaining to her mother, “Mama, that glove is hot.” Several weeks later doctors could find no trace of cancer in the child. Following Mass everyone present had the opportunity to venerate the relics and prayed with Robert another gentleman who accompanied him from a local parish St. Joseph’s.
