August is one of the favorite times of the year for the Holy Family Residence, for it is the month of the Feast Day of Jeanne Jugan. This year is special, however, for we now have the privilege of honoring her as Saint Jeanne Jugan! Posters, memorabilia, and other visual displays can be seen throughout the Home. In preparation for her Feast Day, Residents were invited to take a tour of the Home to learn about the responsibilities of each of the departments. The big surprise was that Jeanne herself (Sr. Josephine) and her assistant, (Jane Campbell, AJJ member) appeared on the scene. As each of the department heads gave a brief summary of just what they did, Jeanne told the interested audience how things were done in her time. Residents had many questions and even took a trip to the loading dock where the “beggar van” was unloading an ample supply of fresh fruit donated by a local business friend of the Little Sisters. Residents enjoyed their time with Jeanne and came away with an appreciation of the challenges she and her Congregation faced, as well as a better understanding of what the staff here at the Home do. On August 30, Auxiliary Bishop Lee Piche was the main celebrant for a beautiful Mass with our chaplain, and Resident and visiting priests. Association Jeanne Jugan members were active participants in the Mass and helped to serve and share a delicious meal that followed the celebration. After lunch, the Sisters joined the Residents in a unique game of Jeanne Jugan Bingo. It was, indeed, a very special day for everyone!
