During the month of November, we remember the souls of our beloved deceased in a special observance. Sisters, Residents, staff, friends and family of those who were called to their Heavenly Father this past year gathered together to celebrate a beautiful memorial mass at the Holy Family Chapel. Pope Benedict states that “it is an occasion to ponder the mystery of death and to renew our faith in the promise of eternal life held out to us by Christ’s resurrection.”
Mother Theresa read the names and Sister Mary Thomas lit a candle, family members carried a rose to place in vases at the side of the altar. Father Eugene Abbott delivered a very relevant homily as we reflected on the lives of our deceased family members. After mass, in the spirit of St. Jeanne Jugan’s hospitality, guests were invited to join each other for coffee and treats as they shared stories with one another.
“Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of the faithful departed through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.”
